El Nido Elementary School History

Early day settlers of what is now the El Nido School District sent their children to one
of the two schools, The Lone Tree School or The Pioneer School.
Sometimes between 1911 and 1914 a petition for formation of a new school district
letters were sent to the trustees of both the above named districts that said petition
would be considered by the Board of Supervisors, petition was considered and a allowed
Boundaries for a new district (El Nido) were set up.
A school building was built and completed on a new site, about one fourth mile east of the old building. Grades four through eight were housed in the new building, and grades kindergarten through third grade were housed in the old building. The school year beginning in September 1961 saw all the grades, kindergarten through eighth grade occupying the new building.
The first principal for the new building was Don Reisenbeck. He was succeeded by Charles
Roveto. When Mr. Roveto moved to the
Finlayson. He was succeeded by Mr. Dalton Davis. After Mr. Davis retired, Gil Gracia became Superintendent/Principal. He was succeeded by Ms. Donna Alley who was Superintendent/Principal for three years. In July, 2004, Mr.
Some teachers who taught in the first school building were: Rose Geller, Rachel Buchholz Wright,Rolfes, Mae Flanagan, Evalyn Paul, Laura Marietta, Sadie Haun, W. A. Wright, Evalyn Wright, Margaret Rasmussen, and Mae Flanagan.
Some trustees who served the first school building were Mrs. J. T. Flanagan, C. W. Guy, George Robinson,H.R. Dwight, Charles Buchholz, F.L. Haun, Norine Price, V. I, Lowe, M.V. Mancibo, Harry Steadler and Joe F. Mederios.
Some teachers who have taught in the new, or second building were Rita Dalton, Eleanor Hollowell, Marie Thompson, Belle Lehman, lla McDaniel, Dianne Jones, Arlene Maxwell,
Melvin Maxwell, Margaret Simmons, Larry Crawford, Catherine Clark, Rodger Hawkins and
Gloria Richardson.
Trustees who have served the new or second building were Charles M. Cooper, Forrest Clayton,Clarence Borba, Gino Pedretti, Kenneth Groefsema, Manuel Fagundes, Proctor L. Hay, Robert Bliss, Nancy Silva, Armon Clay, Bobby Borba, and Randal Brinlee.
Current trustees are Jill Montague, Shannon Erickson, Mike Anderson, Corey Fagundes, and Anne Silva-Lewis.
