At El Nido Elementary School we all agree to the following:

  • Respect yourself: Do only those things that will help you to achieve a successful and healthy future.
  • Respect others: Use the lifeskills and lifelong guidelines to work with other students and all adult staff members.
  • Respect property: Take care of your things and take care of those things which we share.

School wide expectanices:

  1. Attend school daily and come on time.
  2. The school dress code must be followed. Wear appropriate school clothes. No slippers or flip flops (see handbook). Hats may not be worn inside at anytime.
  3. Be prepared to work everyday. Bring your notebook(binder), lined paper, school planner, pens, pencils, ruler, required textbooks and whatever equipment is required for learning to class.
  4. Do your homework nightly. There is homework hall and homework help.
  5. Do not bring radios, walkman, ipods, or games to school.
  6. Do not engage in physical or verbal violence. Play fighting and fighting are not allowed and may result in up to five days suspension. 
  7. Respect the building. Do not graffiti or deface any part of the building or other school equipment 

Rewards and Consequences

 The staff and faculty at El Nido Elementary School believe students who work hard and follow the rules at school should also reap the benefits of their efforts. Therefore, a variety of reward programs have been established that include the following:

 

·        Student of the Week Award

·        Student of the Quarter Academic Awards

·        No Citation Reward Days

·        Caught Being Good Tickets and Prizes

·        Other: special events, dances

 

Code of Conduct

 Students at El Nido Elementary will:

      ü      respect other students, adults, and property of others

ü      behave in such a way as to maintain a positive learning environment

ü      enter classrooms quietly with all necessary materials

ü      follow directions the first time they are given

ü      be on task during class time

ü      use appropriate language at all times

ü      use playground equipment properly

 

Unfortunately, there may be some students who choose to ignore the Code of Conduct and the other rules outlined in this handbook.  Students choosing to display unsatisfactory behavior will be dealt with according to the consequences described below, which include citations, detentions, suspensions, and loss of privilege (LOP).

 

 LOP:  The Loss of Privilege (LOP) list will be available every Monday morning.  Students who are referred to the office for discipline reasons described below will be placed on the LOP list beginning the first Monday following the referral that earned assignment to the LOP.  Assignment to the LOP is for the period of time as described below:

 

Students who are placed on the LOP list lose the privilege of attending or participating in school sporting events, participating in extracurricular activities, reward days/activities, dances, activities/ceremony, and special activity days for the entire period they are on LOP. However, they will not lose the opportunity to attend instructional activities. Students are responsible for notifying their advisor or coach if they are on the LOP list. This will ensure that students who are ineligible to participate do not do so. Students who fail to notify their advisor or coach and subsequently participate in an activity listed above that they are in fact ineligible for, shall be removed from the team/activity for the remainder of the season.

 

 Consequences for Each Action  (Refer to student planner.)

Step One:         Student is issued a citation and loses recess the next day (stays with classroom teacher) 

Step Two:        Student is issued a citation and the teacher calls parent and informs of the infraction and warns of step three.

Step Three:       Teacher calls parent for a conference with the teacher and administrator. One day detention after school with classroom teacher. LOP for two weeks.

Step Four:        In school suspension for grades 4 – 8. Teacher calls parent for a conference with the teacher and administrator. LOP for three weeks.

Step Five:         Home suspension by office. LOP for four weeks.

 

For minor infractions occurring in class or on the yard, or failure to arrive in a timely manner, failure to follow cafeteria or bus procedures and guidelines, students may be assigned to a community service detail. Community service may consist of working in the cafeteria to food and/or clean tables, school beautification projects during or after school, or other such on-campus service.

 Suspension/Expulsion

Serious infractions as listed in the California Education Code (E.C. 48900 A-K) may lead to immediate suspension or expulsion:

·         Fighting, assaulting, or threatening others

·         Vandalism

·         Stealing, extortion

·         Possession of weapons or dangerous object

·         Possession of or influence of drugs, alcohol, tobacco

·         Habitual profanity or vulgarity or obscene acts

·         Disruption of school or defiance of school staff

LOP and Immediate Suspensions listed above

First suspension                                    2 weeks loss of privileges

All subsequent suspensions                   4 weeks loss of privileges

 

Playground Rules

 

Running is only allowed on grass areas.

Kick balls on grass area only.

Use the restroom and get drinks during recess, before the bell rings.

Return all equipment being used.

Line up quietly at appropriate area at the end of recess.

 

Cafeteria Rules

The following school rules have been established in order to ensure a safe and orderly cafeteria: 

Follow the directions of supervision adults.

Stay seated in assigned area.

Students are expected to use a whispering voice

Students are encouraged to eat all their food.

When appropriate, a second helping will be served.

Bus Rules

1.      The bus driver is in complete charge of the bus and everyone on the bus.  Students are to follow the driver's instructions when boarding, riding or leaving the bus.  The driver may assign seats.

2.      Students are to remain seated when on the bus until arriving at school or home.

3.      Students are to keep their arms, head and any personal belongings inside the bus at all times.

4.      Eating, drinking and gum chewing on the bus are not allowed.

5.      Glass containers, balloons and animals are not allowed on the bus.

6.      No objects are to be thrown or dropped from the bus.

7.      Bus aisles are to be clear at all times.

8.      Loud talking or distracting movements are prohibited at all times.

9.      Students must ride assigned buses unless notes are written by parents and special circumstances exist and you have written permission from the office.
